American Dream Project:
Group: Mitchel Johnson, Katie Gipe, Sharvil Patel, and Aaron Barber
Why are we working together?
We are all working in a group because we all have similar academic goals and objectives. Also, we tend to have complementing view
Project Type and Why?
We will be creating a large visual poster that will compile multiple sources in order to illustrate why the American Dream is still indeed living, albeit witha different definition than considered by most.
Deadlines:
Finished by October 22nd.

Why will we be successful in our project goal?
Our group will successful in achieving our project goals because of the interesting perspectives and viewpoints that we, as individual members,
bring to the table. It will be the summation of these unique talents and ability, in all areas including but not limited to, artistic ability, intellectual talent, and critical thinking, that will allow us to make a primarily artistic project in nature but also include the key concepts required
to make a detailed analysis of the American dream. One aspect of my project
that I bring to the table is the fact that I was in Advanced Placement Language
Arts last year which definitely helped me to develop my understanding of written
language and increase my ability to write essays that are conducive for the
prompt given. However, balancing this language ability, I also bring a wide
degree of scientific analysis ability to the group. This was illustrated by my
enrollment in Advanced Placement Chemistry last year and my enrollment this year
in Advanced Placement Calculus and Physics. Mathematical analysis is a key facet
of any project involving any aspect of society, simply because so many things
can be examined from a mathematical angle. However, in a project as complex as
the one that we are focusing on here, mathematical analysis is not the only
component that needs to be utilized in the final project.
As with any issue
involving the American Dream, ours will undoubtedly place a focus on money, the
economy, and how the people in America have access to it. In this area of
analysis, I have several redeeming experiences that will allow be to look at the
issue from both an objective and subjective perspective. Since I have a job
right now (refereeing youth soccer games), I understand how hard it can be for
some to work while only earning minimum wage and expecting this meager sum to
provide enough for them to live off of. This allows for the subjective analysis
because I can truly see the implications of trying to use the money that I earn
on providing for a family. Also, I took Advanced Placement Macro and Micro
Economics last year. In this class we discussed both large scale economic issues
as well as the decisions that small businesses must make in an attempt to
continually move forward. In a society where money and the pursuit thereof is
considered by many to be the purpose of life, this economic background can
provide our group with the valuable insight required to tackle a problem as
intertwined with money as the question we are attempting to answer. This
knowledge has, and will continue to have an impact on the way that I interpret
the American dream; at least from a purely objective position.
However, it is the sum of my experiences as well as the sum of
our groups opinions that we hope to reflect to the reader in our artistically
based project. While we may not all possess the skills needed to make a poster
such as the one we are attempting, one person in our group does (as a result of
her experiences). It is this meshing of skills that will allow us to succeed in
our final project.
